Journey along the Nile to unravel the mysteries of Ancient Egypt with this must-see exhibition featuring over 240 objects, including intricately decorated coffins, mummies, statues, and extracts from the Book of the Dead.
Unearth a journey of a lifetime as the WA Museum partners with the Rijksmuseum van Oudheden (RMO) in the Netherlands, the National Museum of Australia, the Queensland Museum, and the Australian Government International Exhibitions Insurance (AGIEI) Program, bring you a collection of treasured Egyptian antiquities to Australia.
With a vast history and culture spanning more than 3000 years, Ancient Egypt continues to fascinate people around the world.
The exhibition takes visitors on a fascinating journey featuring stunning objects on loan from the RMO’s significant Egyptian and Nubian collections, alongside digital experiences and hands-on activities.
From early exploration to cutting-edge modern research, this exhibition unveils the lifestyles of the ancient Egyptians, their religion and society, their creativity, and their belief in an afterlife where they could live for eternity.
Featuring over 240 objects, including intricately decorated coffins, mummies, extracts from the Book of the Dead, jewellery, amulets, shabti, statues and many more.
The mummified bodies in this collection have kept their original linen bandages. RMO founding director J.C. Reuvens understood the irreversible damage the unwrapping caused and waited for future technological advances to enable research on the mummified remains to be undertaken.
For this exhibition, recent CT scans have been conducted on mummified humans and animals, with the results of the analysis being made public in Australia for the first time via a cutting-edge digital interactive.
Visitors will also discover fascinating stories and behind-the-scenes insights into the RMO’s archaeological expeditions and its unique working relationship with colleagues in museums, universities and the community both in Egypt and Europe.
