Celebrate Lunar New Year and the legacy of the Terracotta Warriors with Harmony of Spring: A Heritage-Rich Display of Chinese Culture, featuring acrobatics, Peking Opera, puppetry, dance, music and magic!
Opening with a Spring Festival Market sequence, accompanied by lion dance and song, audiences will encounter a series of works reflecting different aspects of Chinese history, artistic practice, and cultural heritage.
Key highlights include Cranes Dancing over Poyang Lake, a shoulder ballet portraying the movement and form of the white crane and the Peking Opera classic The Drunken Concubine, offering insight into traditional opera aesthetics of the Tang Dynasty.
Spirit of the Terracotta Warriors, a contemporary male solo inspired by the enduring legacy of the Qin Dynasty, blends classic Chinese dance, Tai Chi and martial arts. The performance is a meaningful point of cultural connection for anyone visiting the Terracotta Warriors: Legacy of the First Emperor exhibition.
The group dance Blue-and-White Porcelain Rhythms draws on Jingdezhen’s blue-and-white porcelain tradition, translating ceramic patterns and forms into restrained movement and stage imagery that reflect centuries of craftsmanship and design.
Additional cultural heritage performances, include:
- Song of the Phoenix, performed on the suona, a traditional wind instrument associated with ceremonial and festive occasions;
- Long Silk Dance – Butterfly Lovers, a puppetry work using flowing silk to reinterpret a well-known classical love story;
- Five-Colour Opera Masks, a puppet-based face-changing performance inspired by traditional opera iconography, with small heritage gift bags presented to selected audience members.
Prior to the show, audiences will also have the opportunity to meet and take photos with Peking Opera performers!
