Celebrate NAIDOC Week 2023 by honouring Yamaji Art Elders, through an exhibition showcasing their stories.
NAIDOC Week, held across Australia in the first week of July each year, is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrating the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth. The 2023 NAIDOC theme ‘For Our Elders’ recognises and acknowledges Elders, Old People and Ancestors who are responsible for instilling the values and beliefs of these cultures, passing down traditions and stories from one generation to another.
Yamaji Art has developed this special exhibition to celebrate the lives of its own senior artists, honouring them through photography and capturing some of their memories, stories and moments in time. Come along to learn more about these everyday individuals, who play such an important and valued role in our local community.
Yamaji Art is a 100 per cent Aboriginal owned & operated art centre in the Mid West of Western Australia. It provides professional services for artists with a focus on sustaining cultural maintenance and arts practice in a variety of mediums, including painting, textiles, weaving, print-making, design and performance.
The Museum of Geraldton is proud to partner with Yamaji Art in hosting this exhibition.
