Find out how geologists know where to dig for gold underground in this fun workshop just for kids!

One of the key methods they use is core sampling. This involves drilling deep into the ground to extract a narrow column of earth that shows what lies beneath the surface.

In this hands-on workshop, kids will step into the role of an exploration geologist. First, build a mini terrarium by layering soil and hiding flecks of “gold”. Then use a sampling tool to take a core sample and investigate what lies underground.

Along the way, learn how geologists study small clues beneath the surface to help decide where gold might be found.
