Albany Then & Now Photography Competition

Enter our photographic competition and celebrate Albany by capturing our region through your lens. 

We invite photographers of all ages and abilities to submit images that reflect the spirit, history, and changing landscapes of Albany—past and present.

Your photo may explore a moment in time, a place transformed, or a creative interpretation of Albany’s 200 year journey.

Entrants may submit their photograph into one of the following categories:

Need a help starting? Join in our free Photography Workshops running on 16 and 18 March (Adults) and 15 April (Children and teenagers).

Categories

• Landscape – natural or built environments across the Albany region
• Aerial – drone or elevated imagery highlighting perspective and scale
• Portrait – individuals or groups reflecting community, culture, or identity
• Artistic – abstract, experimental, or interpretive photographic works

Age groups

• Primary School (Ages 5–12)
• High School (Ages 13–17)
• Adult (18+ years)

Entry Requirements

• You may submit more than one entry, provided each is a new and original submission.
• Original work only—no plagiarism or AI-generated images.
• Must reflect the theme: Albany: Then & Now.
• Submit as a JPG.
• Include title, name, age, category, and contact details.

Judging Criteria

• Creativity and originality
• Connection to theme
• Photography techniques
• Emotional or intellectual impact
• Presentation and adherence to guidelines

Prizes

• Prizes awarded in each category.
• Winning entries may be published online and displayed at community events.
• Winners will be notified by email and phone.

• Include: Name, age, phone number, email address
• Entries open: Monday 16 March 2026 
• Entries close: Thursday 30 April 2026 4pm 
• Winners announced: Monday 4 May 2026 3pm
