Created by Cheltenham Festivals in the United Kingdom, FameLab is the world’s leading science communication competition. Since launching in 2007, it has expanded to more than 40 countries and welcomed over 40,000 scientists worldwide.

At the National Final, each researcher will have three minutes to explain their work in clear, engaging language that anyone can understand. No slides. No PowerPoints. No jargon. No boring.
Competitors can use only the props they carry onto the stage, so where they take their presentation from there is up to them. They might sing, dance, demonstrate something unexpected or find an entirely unique way to communicate their research.
They’ll be judged on the three Cs of FameLab: Content, Clarity and Charisma.
The finalists have already completed a series of online workshops and will continue their preparation in Perth with an in-person workshop ahead of the final. These workshops are delivered with our training partner Comm-it, who are helping the finalists develop the skills to communicate complex research with clarity, confidence and impact.
On Thursday 24 September, all 12 finalists will take to the stage in Perth to compete for the title of FameLab Australia 2026 Champion, with the winner representing Australia at the FameLab International Final in front of a global audience!
