Western Australian Museum joins in WA Day celebrations

WA Day unites all people young and old, from all ethnicities and cultures, who have made Western Australia such an incredible and unique place to live.  It’s a day where we acknowledge the histories, diverse cultures and contributions made by all people who proudly call Western Australia home. 

Here's how you can celebrate with the Western Australian Museum! 


WA Museum Boola Bardip: Nyoongar Story Time 

Where: WA Museum Boola Bardip 

When: Monday 3 June | 10am, 11am, 12pm & 1pm

Cost: Included with General Admission 

Boola Bardip means 'many stories' in Whadjuk Nyoongar and what better way to celebrate many stories this WA Day than with Nyoongar Story Time with local cultural educator nd artist Rickeeta Walley. 

Spend a special day with Rickeeta, exploring the stories and language from the place that we live.

The world-renowned Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour is set to host the highly anticipated WA Day Festival Fremantle 2024. This vibrant celebration, taking place on Monday, June 3, 2024, from 11am to 5pm, will invite the Western Australian community to come together and revel in the richness of cultural diversity.

The festival aims to showcase the traditional and contemporary facets of Western Australian culture through a dynamic blend of music, performance, theatre, and hospitality. By highlighting the contributions of Aboriginal history, early European settlers, and the diverse communities from around the globe, the event honors the mosaic of identities that define Western Australia.

Throughout the festival grounds at Mews Park, Bathers Beach, and the WA Shipwrecks Museum, attendees will be treated to an array of performances representing Oceania, Asia, Europe, and South America.

From glamorous fashion showcases featuring intricate and inspiring Western Australian creations, to stunning Latin music and fiery Samba dancers, authentic traditional Aboriginal Australian performers, the Absolute Kylie Show, and children’s attractions the event will captivate audiences with its energy and excitement.

A dedicated Children's Entertainment Program will ensure that younger attendees are fully engaged in the festivities, fostering a spirit of inclusion and community engagement. As the sun sets over the iconic Bathers Beach, the celebration will culminate with dazzling fire artists, providing a fitting conclusion to the WA Day Festival Fremantle 2024.

Get ready to immerse yourself in a day filled with joy, culture and community spirit as the Museum of the Great Southern presents its WA Day Festival! 

The Museum’s vibrant event promises to be a testament to all that makes Western Australia great with a diverse array of activities and performances designed to engage guests of all ages.

From captivating stage shows to interactive exhibits, there's something for everyone. Best of all, admission to the festival is free, encouraging the whole community to take part. 

The festivities will kick off with a Welcome to Country led by Kurrah Mia followed by an interactive stage performance by the beloved Albany-based children's entertainer, Jamie the Clown.

Guests can immerse themselves in the rich cultural heritage of the region with Aboriginal Tool Making demonstrations and Aboriginal-themed arts and crafts at Coolingar Corner,

Spirits will be high with music performances by the Albany Ukulele Group, Bird on a Wire Choir, and local musicians Geoff Waldeck and Kimbo and  face painting, glitter tattoos, and a bouncy castle will add to the festive atmosphere.

The popular Thong Throwing Competition will be back and opportunities to interact with actors portraying convicts aboard the Brig Amity.

For those with a thirst for knowledge, Scitech will be on hand to deliver a captivating stage show “Knowledge by Nature” and interactive exhibits exploring the wonders of science and nature.

Community engagement lies at the heart of the festival, with various stalls and activities by local groups including Mount Lockyer Primary School’s morning tea and North Albany Senior High School Japanese Students origami lessons. This will be a day full of opportunities to connect with community culture and creativity.

Museum of the Great Southern Regional Manager Catherine Salmaggi said the team are looking forward to WA Day and bringing the Albany Community together for another day full of family friendly entertainment and activities.

“This year's WA Day event won't disappoint with loads of fun for the whole family including Jamie the Clown, Sci Tech and the Golden Thong throwing competition and so much more," she said.

In addition to the entertainment lineup, guests can participate in a wide range of activities that celebrate diversity and inclusion, including live sand art demonstrations, Fishability fishing experiences, and recreational therapy with ATLAS.

Indulge in a variety of delicious local food and drink options representing diverse cultures and cuisines, and capture memories of WA Day with selfies on the Selfie Deck overlooking the Marina.

Unleash your creativity at one of the many workshops available throughout the day, emerging with unique WA-focused pieces made with your own hands. Enjoy the many free family friendly activities including face painting, portrait drawing, rope courses, and wildlife encounters.

Prepare for an exhilarating celebration of Western Australia's rich heritage and sense of adventure at the WA Day event hosted at the Museum of the Goldfields in Kalgoorlie. Taking place on Monday, June 3, this year's festivities promise to be bigger and better than ever, featuring a variety of new attractions alongside beloved favorites.

This year, the Museum of the Goldfields is proud to present a 'Sense of Adventure', incorporating several exciting new attractions into the already well-established program of events.

Angie the Fairy brings her enchanted purple tent and a team of fairies to create a mesmerizing face painting experience for children. Known throughout Kalgoorlie-Boulder for her magical touch, Angie is sure to be a hit with kids and adults alike.

Bendy Abbs, the Goldfields’ own, is a one-woman party on the move! With her infectious ukulele tunes and lively personality, she'll provide roving entertainment that's guaranteed to keep the crowd smiling.

Regina Donaldson, custodian of Dreamtime stories from the Kalgoorlie Boulder and Coolgardie area, will share the Karlkurla Dreaming story through collaborative art and storytelling, offering a glimpse into the rich cultural heritage of the region.

Gavin Cumba, a Wongutha/Anunga/Noongar/Yamatji man and multi-disciplinary artist, will captivate audiences with his storytelling and rock painting, offering insights into Indigenous culture and traditions.

Edie and Danny Ulrich, owners of Goldfields Honey Ant Tours, will share their unique experiences with traditional gathering and harvesting, accompanied by a new art installation at the Museum of the Goldfields.

Witness the bravery of miners as they climb the iconic Ivanhoe Headframe in thrilling rescue demonstrations, highlighting the resilience and dedication of the mining community.

For the adventurous souls, Rad Rock Adventures offers an exhilarating 4-meter-high ropes course, challenging participants to climb, balance, and navigate obstacles while safely harnessed.
