90-minute duration
"Ailan Kastom, meaning 'island custom', is a documentary about Torres Strait Islander culture featuring history geography, music, dance and art of the Torres Strait, as well as language and ceremonies."
Commissioned by the Torres Strait Regional Authority and directed by Brett Charles of Leftfield productions in Cairns, Ailan Kastom is a snapshot of Torres Strait Islander culture as was in 2013. The documentary was filmed over six months in the outer island communities of the Torres Strait, the thin strip of sea between the tip of Cape York, Queensland and New Guinea.
