The WA Maritime Museum’s WA Down Under Gallery explores life in Western Australia's waters, with two large aquariums featuring species from the Swan-Canning estuary. This Gallery offers a unique opportunity to get up close and see familiar aquatic animals from a new perspective.

We might not give much thought to these unassuming animals while swimming or boating, but they can reveal a lot about the conditions of Perth’s waters. Life in the river changes dramatically throughout the year, and fish must constantly adapt to survivemoving between habitats and seeking out new sources of food.

This National Science Week, our friendly Learning and Engagement team will share insights about the feeding habits, social behaviours, and life cycles of the fish found in our local waters.

Discover how these fascinating animals surviveand why understanding them is key to preserving our underwater environments.
