Join us for an artist's talk and underwater photographic exhibition showcasing the unique and stunning marine environment of the Abrolhos Islands.

The Fathoming the Abrolhos exhibition shows audiences what a truly unique marine habitat the Abrolhos Islands are. Underwater photographer Graeme Gunness has been capturing the exquisite natural wonder of the wildlife in these scenes, consciously endeavouring to positively influence the debate on their conservation.

Hear from Graeme in this illustrated talk discussing the unique marine environment of the Abrolhos, the history, its role as a sea bird breeding colony and its archeological significance. Hear about the changes witnessed at the Abrolhos over the past 20 years of diving and learn about the diving and photographic techniques used.

About your presenter

Graeme Gunness is a retired engineer with a lifetime passion for the sea including 10 years of service in the Royal Australian Navy. Graeme has been diving for 50 years in many parts of the world and at the Abrolhos Islands - with wife Ann - for over 20 years. The duo's aim, depending on the weather,  is to spend around 3 months every year at the Abrolhos on their boat. It is their love of the islands and the wonderful experiences there that motivated them to put together this exhibition, showing people the exquisite natural habitat that is at risk if the environment there is jeopardised. This exhibition sees Graeme and Ann attempt to share with the WA community and give something back to the islands that have inspired them both as photographers and proud Western Australians.
