NAIDOC Week 2024

National NAIDOC Week is a time to celebrate and highlight the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This year's NAIDOC Week theme is, 'Keep the Fire burning! Blak, Loud and Proud'.  

The 2024 theme encapsulates the unyielding spirit of our communities and invites all to listen, learn, and engage in truth-telling and meaningful dialogue. Through amplifying the voices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples we can forge a future where the stories and traditions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities are cherished and celebrated, enriching the fabric of the nation with the oldest living culture in the world. 

The fire represents the enduring strength of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, passed down through generations despite the challenges faced. It is a symbol of connection to the land, to each other, and to the rich tapestry of traditions that define Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. As we claim our narratives, we kindle the sparks of pride and unity, igniting an unwavering commitment to justice and equality. 

"Blak, Loud and Proud" encapsulates the unapologetic celebration of First Nations identity, empowering us to stand tall in our heritage and assert our place in the modern world, fostering a society where the wisdom and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are fully valued and respected.

Reclaim the Void: Assemblage

During Assemblage some 3000 small, circular rag rugs will be tied together into the component dots of a vast artwork. The process will be completed later this year in situ on Ngalia tjukurrpa parna - sacred country.
