As the sun sets and darkness falls, creatures of the night emerge. Who are these nocturnal neighbours and what are they up to?

Join us to explore nocturnal creatures in your garden and neighbourhood! From dissecting owl pellets to discovering how to help keep nighttime wildlife safe and thriving, there's so much to learn. Experience the wonders of night-blooming flowers attracting pollinators like moths, silent owl hunts and the lively antics of geckoes and microbats feasting on insects. Come hear the screeches, chirrups, and bumps of the night—you might be pleasantly surprised!

During this workshop, participants will:

  • Identify some nocturnal visitors to the garden
  • Investigate the nighttime world of owls before carefully dissecting an owl pellet to explore their diet
  • Find out what they can do at home to help keep nocturnal wildlife safe, healthy and thriving in the neighbourhood.

Remember to bring a water bottle and an old shirt to protect your clothes during the program. Here are some items of tools, equipment, and materials that may be used under strict guidance:

  • Sanitised owl pellets
  • Tweezers (metal and/or plastic)
  • Wooden satay sticks
  • Scissors
  • Safety glasses
  • Latex free gloves
  • Surgical masks
  • Small glass jars

Please note National Companion Cards are accepted at the WA Museum Boola Bardip. Due to the nature of this workshop, companion card bookings should be made by contacting reception@museum.wa.gov.au

Drop and leave programs

Drop and leave programs enable juniors to experience the Museum independently, discover and learn something new in an area of interest and access materials and resources that would not normally be available at home.
