Join the mission to become a Dissection Detective!
These school holidays, join us for an exciting hands-on workshop where you'll explore the fascinating world of squid. Through the art of dissection, you'll learn about these amazing creatures, their unique features, and their biology. In addition to scientific exploration, you'll use squid ink to create a one-of-a-kind piece of art to take home - combining science with creativity.
What to expect
- Develop your skills of observation, critical thinking and attention to detail
- Under guidance, respectfully and carefully dissect a squid
- Observe and discuss the role of science and art in helping to record the natural world
- Use squid ink to produce a piece of artwork to take home
Your scientific toolkit
We use only high-quality specimens from ethical suppliers. Tools and materials are used under strict guidance and include:
- Squid (thawed for use)
- Dissecting trays
- Tweezers, wooden sticks and scissors
- Safety glasses, latex-free gloves and surgical masks
- Small glass jars, digital microscopes and Petri dishes
Drop and Leave Holiday Programs
Drop and leave programs enable children and young people to experience the Museum independently, discover and learn something new in an area of interest and access materials and resources that would not normally be available at home. All programs are managed and monitored by our experienced Learning and Engagement staff.
Don't take our word for it. Here's what some of our past participants had to say:
“I had a great time! I will certainly be coming back for another class! Thank you for all the fun!.” Millie 10 years.
“I rate this holiday program 5 stars because we dissected real animals.”
“It was so much fun! I loved meeting all the people.” Tilly 9 years.
“I loved it! I learnt lots of stuff.” Finn 8 years.
